 | Average Rating: 4 out of 5 No. of Reviews: 2 RRP: £65 Year: to 2006 Description: Finally, a shoe for extreme weather cycling. Waterproof polyurethane-coated leather upper features a high-top neoprene ankle cover to help keep feet warm.. Cup-molded EVA backed inner sole and Texon mid-sole assure a rigid yet comfortable cradle for the foot.
This is NOT a waterproof shoe, it is a winter shoe that will afford more comfort in the winter months than typical MTB shoes that often have large mesh areas aimes at keeping the foot cool in the better weather.
Combine with waterproof socks for the ultimate in bad weather protection.

 | | | Posted: 10/06/07 | | 'GREAT SHOES FOR TOASTY WINTER TOES.' | | Strengths: Although not waterproof, they will keep your feet warm in winter. They don't look like a liquorice torpedo. | | Weaknesses: Can be slippy on wet rock. Ditto Trio.
| | Overall: According to Shimano these shoes aren't intended to be waterproof, but are winter shoes. If you want waterproof Shimano do a new version with a gortex liner, the MW02 for about £99, which my partner has. So I will compare and contrast. Mine look pretty damn cool. He looks like he going to a Berty Bassett theme party wearing a couple of liquorice torpedoes on his feet. Both have a neoprene cuff at the ankle, mine have a Velcro ankle closure, his don't, which means mine are easy to get on and off. He struggles. The down side: the seal on mine isn't as watertight and on my particular pair poor manufacturing means the abrasive Velcro sticks through the neoprene on one shoe, chaffing my skin unless I wear my sock above the lip of the cuff. Although puddles have collected in my shoe when water has come over the top of my shoes and is absorbed through my exposed sock/imperfect seal, my feet have always remained warm. I've consulted my other half about the sock-moisture-absorption issue and he had no recollection of getting wet feet. The soles on both mine and his are slippery on wet rock. What's most irritating about this is I only usually get off when it is too steep & technical to climb or descend, or I'm crossing a river/stream. This is precisely when I want good grip on my shoes. They are a snug-fit, so definitely take Trio's advice and go a size up if you want to wear thick socks. I wear mine throughout autumn, winter & spring, and will even take them to Scotland in the summer. They are great winter boots, Shimano no longer make the MW101, but it is still possible to get hold of them, especially on the Internet. The RRP was £79, but I got them for £49 last year, if you want some shop around for a bargain.
