Trek WSD Vapour 3 Sport Helmet - Tested

Trek_Vapour_helmet.
24 vents to keep you cool

The WSD Vapour 3 Sport is Trek's entry level helmet for women and priced at the highly competitive £25 mark, it's good to see you get a lot for your money though. Firstly you get a whopping 24 vents including side vents to keep your head nice and cool, and weighing only 270g it's pretty lightweight too.

There are two sizes to choose from, amazing at this price point where you usually find a one size fits all philosophy. Finer adjustments can be made with the Zip Tite 2 fit system, that can be tightened for a secure fit.

  • Price: £24.99
  • Sizes: XS-Small, Small-Med
  • Colours: Blue, Pink
  • Performance: 8
  • Value: 9
  • A well fitting and value for money helmet for women
  • Contact: www.trekbike.co.uk

We gave the WSD Vapour 3 Sport to Andrea Hofling to test as part of her Paris-Roubaix training, she chose to wear it for the event so she must have liked it!

This helmet was a revelation, Trek seem to have taken pity on me (and my funny shaped bonce) and designed one that fits like a glove, or rather like a rather well-fitting glove.

The tightening device [Zip Tite 2 retention system] works at the turn of a button, not unlike an old fashioned radio dial, you can make the circumference of the insert smaller or larger to suit your head. The helmet also has a peak, which is neat, because it keeps the sun (or rain, as the case may be) out of your eyes, and it's removable if you prefer.

I love this helmet because it attracted one of best compliments I have ever had regarding my cycling head gear. My friend Emma said “this is the most un-helmet like helmet I have ever seen' , from a non-cyclist that's a real compliment.

In colder weather I normally wear a polar buff which is brilliant but found that in windy conditions, it wasn't enough. I tried wearing a windstopper headband on top but that felt uncomfortable as the headband kept falling down! Has anyone found anything that really works? Has anyone tried the Sealskinz windproof hat? One possible problem is that I have "big hair" which needs to be accommodated! That rules out the men's headwear!
