Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa has won the UCI XC World Cup series title for the fourth consecutive year, despite being beaten into second place in the final round in Schladming, Austria. Marie-Helene Premont won her second successive World Cup round, staying on Dahle Flesjaa's wheel for most of the race before making her move towards the end of the penultimate lap. Inevitably, Dahle Flesjaa wasn't going to give up without a fight, and Premont crossed the line just 10 seconds ahead of her Norwegian rival.

Would it be possible to do some lobbying for a seperate ladies start for the open category in the Gorrick XC races this year? I remember talking about it with a few girls last year... usually there are over a hundred blokes racing and ten or so girls, so with a mass start it is very intimidating and also hard to have a decent race. You don't know if you are coming first or fifth after the chaos of the start, and then having to pass ten blokes to find the next girl is a bit unfair on anyone who holds back a bit at the start to not get crushed.

The two lap length is great fun and I think more girls would have a go if it weren't for the mass start - giving the lads a 10 minute headstart should do it. Then the girls can keep warm somewhere ...
