Thursday 14th September saw the fourth day of the 2006 UCI World Masters Track Championships at the Manchester Velodrome. These are the official championships for riders over 30 years of age. Today saw the 2006 World Masters titles awarded in Men's Pursuit, Points & Sprint and Women's Sprint events.
Great Britain won two of the seven titles on offer with winning performances from Joel Stewart (Men's 30-34 Pursuit) and Janet Birkmyre (Women's 40+ Sprint). Janet makes it three Gold medals out of three so far this week, adding the Sprint to her earlier Points and Individual Time Trial titles.
Joanne Fenwick, from Warrington, set two new World Masters Best Times for the Women's 50+ age category in the Sprint today, both in the qualification 200m time trial and in competition (subject to ratification).
At the end of the fourth day the top three Countries in the medal table are as follows:
1st: USA (11 Gold,11 Silver and 5 Bronze),
2nd: Great Britain (11 Gold, 6 Silver and 15 Bronze),
3rd: Australia (6 Gold, 7 Silver and 4 Bronze).
