The Nike Kato 3 Women Specific shoes are designed to provide the perfect women's specific fit, featuring a narrower heel, and lower instep to provide a non-slip heel and mid-foot comfort. They're intended to act as a more casual cycling shoe so you'll find that the sole is stiff enough to put power through the pedals but not to the extent that you couldn't wear them for walking.
If you're off for a day out on the trails, a few coffee stops and a bit of walking by foot then these shoes are the business. The last thing you want on a day like this is to have to spend the day in super stiff carbon race shoes, so the Kato offers a good solution.
They look like trainers at a first glance and the sole is designed to give you traction on trails and round town.
We found the Kato to be a versatile bike shoe, with an emphasis towards riding rather than miles of hiking or everyday use off the bike. You can wear the Kato with or without cleats, the cleats are fit into the recess to allow for easy walking with minimal contact underfoot, and the Lace keeper strap keeps laces out of the chain ring. The arch support is good and the shoe has a low cut around the ankle for good flexibility when walking, the sole gives good traction on all surfaces and seems highly durable. They make for a good all round and commuting shoe, however, we found that the soles were a bit too stiff for prolonged walking, although with use off the bike they do soften slightly.
On the bike we found the Kato's offered good power transfer to the pedal, look pretty good and offer good breathability and comfort for miles of steady riding.
