The third Revolution series kicks off this Saturday with the SheCycles Women's Sprint Omnium, featuring top British cycling talent, Victoria Pendleton and Anna Blythe.
We should be in for a fantastic display of riding as the girls battle it out on the boards against the two Dutch sprinters, Willy Kanis and Yvonne Hijgennar.
The invitation event is set to take place at Manchester Velodrome on October 15th and will really put pressure on the girls to perform on home soil- and hopefully ride to victory against the reportedly strong Dutch duo.
Points scored over a number of omnium events will decide an overall winner. These will include a Match Sprint competition, a 1 Mile Dash and a two up Team Sprint where the British and Dutch riders will work together.
Victoria is pleased with the decision to run an omnium and said, “It's great to have a competition across different events because if you're going badly in one you can make it up in the others which leads to exciting racing particularly with only four riders - every point is crucial. It's rare to ride in front of a crowd like the one at Revolution so I always really look forward to it. Hopefully Anna and I can give the crowds something to shout about!”
Talent team nurtured Anna will be making her debut in the elite women's category after her impressive form has won her Bronze and Silver medals at the Junior Worlds.
This will be a tough contest between four exceptionally talented track sprinters and we can definitely expect a crowd pleasing display of riding.
With more events like this and the success of young cycling team talent, we can enjoy seeing the continuing growth of women's cycling on a global scale.
The Revolution Concept
Revolution was created in 2003 by Face Partnership and the Manchester Velodrome to provide a new style of cycling event in the UK, a style that would focus on action and entertainment to provide a unique night at the races.
The racing is fast and the atmosphere is electrifying with music and lighting effects enhancing the action. With numerous bars, food outlets and attractions around the concourse, and in track centre, it's not just about the racing. Revolution provides a superb night of entertainment for all the family.
Victoria says of the series, "I'm excited, It's nice that I'm going to be able to ride my event at a Revolution because I've ridden a points race before but that's not really my scene and it would be nice to do a bit of what I train for really. Also it's an amazing event and it's an amazing crowd and stuff so it's a real buzz, even just being here and watching I've really enjoyed it. It gets a really good reception, it's better than the world cup and it's certainly better than the Nationals. Revolution's action packed, you only get the best riders riding and the event is so well planned, and there aren't any dull moments."
