Cycle Yorkshire run guided mountain bike trips and also offer fully qualified mountain bike instruction sessions in a fun and relaxing atmosphere.
Enjoy and experience beautiful scenery and great off-road riding at Otley Chevin Forest Park and the surrounding bridleways. It's a great way to start to develop the ability, confidence and safety awareness of mountain biking for all the family as well as individuals. Skills courses are lead by a fully qualified mountain bike instructor and during the day the course will cover the following:
- Bike preparation [safety checks]
- Riding position
- Correct use of gears
- Braking [efficiently and safely]
- Ascending techniques [climbing]
- Descending techniques
- Cornering techniques
- Riding single track
- Drops
Terrain is varied but not to demanding for novice riders, but it helps if you have some general fitness to enjoy the day to the full.
Courses start at 10am and finish at 4pm approx, this Sunday (27th Aug) is for women riders only but there are many other dates for mixed groups and families, catering for beginners to advanced riders.
Please contact Iain at Cycle Yorkshire to book your place, iain@cycleyorkshire.co.uk. Luckily bike hire is included in the course price if required, make sure you ask if you need a bike! For more information go to

News update - MTB coaching for deaf people
On 19th August Bradford based Cycle Yorkshire introduced Beginners Mountain Bike training to a deaf patient from the Bradford Royal Infirmary - Cochlear Implant Unit. Catherine Wells who was born with profound deafness had successfully received an implant from the unit in 2003 and has worked with the unit to develop her communication skills since that time. Having won an introductory Mountain Bike day's training in a raffle organised by the Bradford Cochlear Implant Unit, Catherine's family all decided to take on the challenge and give mountain bike riding a go!
Iain Johnson from Cycle Yorkshire who donated the raffle prize and personally lead the instruction said “We were able to accommodate a deaf person into a group session which went really well and we are prepared to work with other deaf people and children who wish to try out Mountain Biking.”
After the training session, Catherine said “I regularly cycle on the roads and feel quite safe but this is the first time I had tried off road cycling on a mountain bike. Iain's instructions were very helpful and I could follow them easily. I would recommend any deaf person to have a try; it is great fun and good exercise.”
