UCI World MTB Champs: Under-23 Women XC

China has never really been considered a major force in mountain biking, but that looks set to change. With the 2008 Olympics being held in Beijing, the People's Republic looks like its gearing up for a big medal push and the Rotorua World Championships have seen the early fruits of this effort.

The Chinese riders Ren Chengyuan and Ying Liu dominated the Under-23 Women's XC, with Chengyuan riding away on the opening lap around the steep slopes of Mt Ngongotaha. She finished 1:38 ahead of her compatriot Liu and nearly five minutes ahead of third-placed Sarah Koba (Switzerland).

Amy Hunt was the sole British rider in the 26-strong field, finishing a creditable 9th, just over ten minutes behind the winner.

Aye, reet now on Sunday there's a few places left on Cycle Yorkshires women's skills day. Based in the Chevin Hills near Otley, come and have a go at climbing, descending, rocky slopes and steps. Take in the great scenery (watch out for airplanes as they come into land;0)) It's an all day affair, with tea stop and pub stop for added fun.
I'm gonna be there so you know it's not gonna be to hard;0)
