It's tough enough to withstand trail damage and fast drying and flexible too. The construction of the baggy short is excellent as we have come to expect from the Protective gear.
Beneath the baggy exterior the mesh-lycra inner short offers a comfortable fit thanks to the Protective Women's Performance pad. It's a 3-panel pad that offers a range of padding thickness from 8mm down to 2mm to avoid bulky and unecessary padding where it isn't needed. Better still the pad has an antibacterial finish and is anatomically designed to work with your body on the saddle.
The inner shorts are lightweight too and we especially liked the mesh-lycra, a nice touch for a detachable short perfect for wearing under a baggy outer. It took a couple of wear and washes to get the chamois fitting perfect although this isn't out of the ordinary as we find many liners fit better after being worn and washed a few times.
The outer short has an elastic drawstring waist that you pull at the side, plus there are loops for attaching the liner short, best of all are the four pockets, two rear zippers big enough for a wallet and spares and two at the hip for smaller items. There aren't many women's shorts that can boast that many pockets. As far as fit and design go,we found the Ashmore shorts to be flattering and very cool, both in terms of temperature and fashion status, the all round reflective piping is subtle during the day and well positioned for nighttime use. The fit is good for womenly curves and we liked the subtle embroidery logo detail on the rear without it feeling too girly!
