Saturday 27th May 2006: - German rider Nina Gohl today won the fourth round of the Women's UCI World Cup Cross Country in Fort William, in her first ever World Cup win in a time of 2:04:10. Gohl beat off competition from a field of 87 riders including current World Cup leader Ghun-Rita Dahle Flesjaa (NOR).
On the first lap Olympic champion Dahle Flesjaa was in a comfortable lead but after suffering a puncture about three quarters of the way round the gruelling Witch's Trail course she was forced to push her bike 3 kilometres to the nearest technical zone leaving her at the back of the field. However, in an incredible display of determination and endurance she fought back from 26th position after the second lap to finish on the podium in 4th place.
Marie-Helene Premont from Canada, who was in fifth place overall after three World Cup races, finished in second place with Russian rider Irina Kalentieva taking third.
