 RACE REPORTS 26 / 07 / 05

National Cross-Country Championships 2005

Monsoon-like rainfall hampered racing on Sunday 24th July at Bringewood, Shropshire creating a mud-bath to challenge the Championship contenders in all categories. Practice laps on Saturday were dry, fast and furious with much praise for the well designed 4.7km course, so the rain on Sunday meant changes to tyres and tactics.

Nat Champ - Jenny Copnall

The Senior women's category was lead out by the defending champion Sue Thomas and season rival Jenny Copnall. On the first lap Copnall put in some time and went away with Thomas crashing and pulling out through injury leaving Katy Simcock in 2nd.

Hazel Wakefield was close by in 3rd place until she flatted near the end of the 2nd lap, leaving 3rd open to deserving Kate George, formerly a Sports Women rider who's improved massively throughout the season.

In the Junior Women category, Abi Greenaway won another Nat Champs medal with Fiona Blagg and Alix Chester on the podium too.

Masters favourite Michelle Bergstrand took a bad fall on her 2nd lap with Paula Moseley taking the advantage and riding to victory with a over 3mins to spare over 2nd place Bergstrand. Deborah Wilkins rode solidly to gain 3rd place.
