She might be a newcomer to the Women's Pursuit race on the track but Wendy Houvenaghel sure can put in a fast ride when she turns her mind to it. Her fast qualifying round on Day 2 of the Sydney World Track Cup gave her the fastest time by 2 seconds and put her in a strong position for the final.
Riding against Li Wang of China, Wendy took a little while to get going but wound it up and clawed back Li Wang's lead, from then on there was no stopping Wendy. Her Gold medal gave her valuable points which added to her Silver medal in Moscow put her in joint first place in the series, next to American rider Sarah Hammer.
Congratulations to Wendy on an excellent race and best wishes for a winning season.
