More girls into DH racing

Kate Betts ready for her DH season

Kate Betts is switching codes! The tough as old boots second-ranked female masters rider is quitting XC to ride downhill next season on a Marin Quake. Kate just wanted to thank a few people who have helped her in the past 12 months:

I wanted to properly thank you for all of the support I have received over the last XC season. You have all been on the end of the phone when I have needed you and I am truly grateful for you believing in me. It was only with your support that I was able to complete the season with the ranking of second in the Masters category.

When the season came to an end in October, the idea was to have a rest from training and concentrate on my bike handling skills. As the weeks flew by it became apparent that I had a bit of a thing for downhilling!

Due to the logistics of racing Downhill, 4x and XC next year I realised that I would have to drop a discipline. I have thought long and hard about this decision and I have finally decided that I will be racing Downhill and possibly 4x next year.

I will be staying loyal to ATB Sales by riding my very plush small Marin Quake which I am already in love with! Dakine are providing my essential wear, Spy my eyewear and I'm hoping that my results will be good enough for EAS Energy to renew my contract in March '08.

With the limited numbers of girls in the sport I'm sure that my sponsors will get more exposure than they have done previously and I will of course still do my race reports for the respective websites.
