Stunning scenery to relax in
|
My last BLOG was entitled 'Facing the off season'. Well I'm surviving, just!
I can tell you that this BLOG is not all cycling!
I returned to Cheltenham and spent time with friends enjoying life as a normal person; late nights, takeaways, the odd glass of wine and, I'm not ashamed to admit it, a few games of Gala bingo!!!
However, my real holiday was yet to come; 7 days camping in Scotland!!! Hamish and I drove to the Lakes initially and spent 3 nights there. We passed our time walking some of the more sedate routes and visiting the tourist towns in the area before traveling up to the Isle of Skye. If you like walking, camping or quiet isolated places, Skye is a must. It was stunning and, in contrast to walking in the lakes, absolutely deserted.
Walking was a pleasure since you invariably had the mountain to yourself. The water falls, streams, valleys and mountains never failed to take your breath away, they didn't stop either as we drove to my uncles near Oban to finish off our holiday. It was SO nice to sleep in a bed after 6 nights in the tent, it makes you appreciate lifes little luxuries.
You may think 'why am I writing a BLOG that doesn't mention any cycling?' Well I can tell you that if I didn't take such breaks from cycling I know that mentally and physically I wouldn't survive the Winter that lies ahead of me and more importantly the season that will follow. So, as far as I'm concerned, this is actually vital for the months ahead on the bike. Now I'm itching to get back on the bike!!!!
