Introduced by Phil Liggett, US bike building legend Ben Serotta once more returned
to London to talk through his bike range.
Located by the side of the Haymarket Hotel swimming pool. (No one fell in by
the way) he answered questions as far reaching as 'what music does his staff
listen too at work', he replied that they use headphones as in the past multitude
of types formed a cacophony. When talking to Ben it becomes very clear that
he is very proud of his workers and is pleased that almost all ride.
Ben covered most
of the themes that we reported on in 2006, but he did announce that all
the carbon work is now crafted 'in house' , whereas in 2006 some tubes were
manufactured in the far east.
He also told us that women's bike sales had increased from 5 to 15%.
Serotta's are expensive but what you do get it is a bike purpose built for
you and tuned to your riding style.
The 2008 range is split into two with the SE models as custom as it gets and
GS which is full custom geometry but with reduced tubing and finish options
(And less cash). Thus each model comes in SE and GS options:
The 2008 range is;
MeiVici – full carbon
Ottott – carbon and titanium mix
Legend – titanium
CDA – steel
CXII – Aero steel
And new for 2008 CXII Ti Aero – titanium.
Also new for 2008 all frames come with fork. The SE models come with the F3
with ti dropouts and tuned rider layup and lifetime warranty. The GS models
come with the new Serotta S3 fork.
