Evans Cycles host Dual Event Weekend at Gatwick HQ

QEpark3

The 2007 Sunday Sportive Series comes to a close this weekend as part of a a Dual Event Weekend, organised by Trail Break and hosted by Evans Cycles at their Gatwick headquarters.

The weekend gets underway with a mtb trail ride on Saturday (20th October) before attention turns to the tarmac on Sunday for the cyclosportive. SheCycles member, Elaine Burroughs will lead the women's ride, check out the article for details or Elaine's Forum Thread has some good info about the rides.

The route winds from Sussex into Kent via scenic lanes skirting Sevenoaks and passing Hever Castle. "We think the route is pretty ideal for this end of the season, with the big challenges of the year behind you." says Trail Breaks Martin Harrison, "it's a good ride, but it's not going to push you into the red zone at a time when most riders are telling us they are starting to wind down for the winter."

And while the 2007 season may only just be winding down, 2008's Sunday Sportive series is already planned out. "We've just confirmed dates and venues for the whole year," says Martin, "and after a great first year this year, we think the Sunday Sportives are going to go from strength to strength in 2008."

Those dates are:

  • 27th April: Princes Risborough, Bucks
  • 11th May: Duncton (nr Petworth), W. Sussex
  • 8th June: Letcombe Regis (nr Wantage), Oxon.
  • 6th July: Bramley (nr Guildford), Surrey
  • 17th August: Woodcote, Oxon. (north of Reading)
  • 12th October: Evans Cycles, Gatwick

And of course, Trail Breaks flagship cyclosport, the Southern Sportive, returns for it's third year on September 14th.

Does anyone fancy getting a few peeps together for the next TrailBreak ride?..

Its on the 20th October at Gatwick (Evans HQ)

I go to these events alot as I love riding new places on marked trails without having to tit about with a map! I went to a few on my own and sat at the start at 9.45 waiting for other eager SheCycles ladies...(OK the last one was tipping it down with rain!)...and there is rarely anyone there

I ended up riding with a group of blokes but sometimes i end up riding on my own. Last weekends ride was around the south downs and Buttser Hill starting from the QE Country Park and appart from a damp first hour it was a fantastic ride (unlike when i did it in June this year!)

    There are a couple more TrailBreak rides this year and for anyone who hasnt done one before check out the events calendar here;

    http://www.trailbreak.co.uk/evans/index.php?go=info

There are no real "placings" but you get ranked Gold, Silver, Bronze or Pub depending on your time to complete and there are 3 different distances to chose from.

They do a bloody marvellous veggie chilli at the end and by 30k my mind has turned to its steamy haze, I can almost smell it and I'm head down on a mission.

SheCycles usually "lead" a standard route out at 9.45 but Bex isnt able to make the next few so I will be there waiting for you all at the start line on the 20th. You can enter online or on the day ( i enter online as then if I wake up and its raining I have to go as I have paid £11...!... tight... me......)

Gatwick isnt the most challenging of their routes as there is a bit more country lanes than most of them but its still a good combo and there is retail therapy at the end as the start/finish is at the Evans superstore and last ride there I got a pair of Pearl Uzumi shoes for £20 in their sale!!!

If you cant make the 20th then check out the other dates as they run one a month and I plan on being at all of them.. ( also going to do the Navigator on the 31st at Arborfield if anyone fancies titting about with a map in the dark??????)

Hope to see lots of you on the 20th... if I have survived D2D by then that is.

    Elaine
