The Protective range from The Edinburgh bicycle group offers practical, performance clothing without breaking the bank. The latest ladies MTB jersey certainly looks to follow suit, but how did it perform? SheCycles puts it to the test to find out.
Jerseys are a simple but essential item in any cyclist's wardrobe and you need one that will help to keep your temperature constant as well as offering a comfortable fit with a few handy features thrown in the mix too.
The Protective Selen short sleeve jersey came up as quite a generous but nicely fitting MTB cut offering comfort and freedom of movement without being too oversized. Protective's AFT Anatomic Fitting Technology offers a multi-panel and tapered design with an elastic closure at the bottom keeping the jersey in place when you're riding. Cut shorter at front and longer at rear it makes for a great women's specific fit.
The design features tons of technical benefits offering everything you need from a jersey and more. Made from Tectron Plus, a double-layer knitted yarn, the material wicks sweat quickly. The seams to the rear feature reflective piping for added visibility on the otherwise black and grey colour scheme. The half-length zip is a great feature for ventilation and what's more, it's concealed to ensure you don't get a base layer caught in the closure also making the neck all the more comfortable against your skin.
There's breathable netting at the rear and on the sleeves to allow for breathability on the otherwise synthetic garment. The jersey washes up well at 40 degrees holding its shape over time.
There are three deep pockets at the rear giving you plenty of space to store all the pumps, spare tubes and bananas you could possibly need! These feature netting underneath for further ventilation.
Predominantly black with grey stitching and details, aesthetically this is a very stylish looking piece of kit. We really liked the look and if you are as vain as us and like to co-ordinate, it really will go with anything!
