We have been given a bright pink POWERBreathe Iron Girl Plus to test and we are looking forward to letting you know how we get on with it. Nope it's not a girl we're testing but a training device that helps you breathe better and get more out of your performance.
The inspiratory muscle training device works on the muscles that you use to inhale and make breathing easier during exercise, thus you can train harder for less effort. It could be described as 'dumb bells for your diaphragm' and it comes with some very bold claims, including:
Improves whole body endurance by 33% during training
Time trial performance of highly trained cyclists improved by 4.6% the equivalent to 3 minutes over a 40km time trial
Breathing effort reduced during cycling by 16%
With claims like this we had to give it a try and so we gave it to SheCycles.com contributor and road and track racer, Janet Birkmyre, will be using it and reporting back. [Ed]
Apparently she can expect to see some improvement in her breathing after just 2 weeks, but to get the full effect Janet will need to continue with the POWERBreathe training (just 30 breaths twice a day) right up to the National Track Championships in October and then she will report back.
