Coastal cycle access

CTC coastThe only seaside riding this summer will be by donkey says CTC and say that Cyclists are being overlooked in plans to open up access to the English coastline.

At present the Government plans to improve access for walkers, but CTC is campaigning for coastal access for all countryside users including cyclists and is urging the cycling community to get involved by completing a quick online survey at www.ctc.org.uk/campaigns.

Richard George, CTC Off-road campaigner: said: 'The seaside should be a perfect place to cycle, but we¹re only allowed to cycle on 7% of the coast'

'The Government wants to create an access corridor around the entire English coastline but is only thinking of walkers. Cyclists and other non-motorised users have been forgotten.'

The Government has asked the CTC to show demand and opportunities' for coastal cycling. Thus the CTC want to hear about all the places you'd love to cycle, if only you had the chance!

Please log on to http://www.ctc.org.uk/coast and post short tales of touring holidays, mountain biking, or a family holiday to the beach which could have taken place by cycle.

The consultation closes on September 11th - and please don't leave it until the last moment!

The Vuelta has a mountain finish here at the Largos at Covedonga. Went up there today - not on the bike though. Would be a good basis for a bit of both world trip.

Pity about the weather though - all that green comes at a price.

Adios Amigas.

PS I have ...
