Keirin racing is a style of sprint racing originating from and hugely popular in Japan. Racers are paced up to a near 30mph by a small motorbike, before unleashing their final sprints with only a few hundred metres remaining.
In answer to the popularity of this type of racing with both competitors and spectators, Velo Club de Londres are promoting a Keirin-Fest on 27 August, Bank Holiday Monday and there will be women's only races too!
Track riders inspired by Vicky Pendleton's awesome World Keirin Title from this year's championships can have a go.
The format for the day is taken from the popular Derny- Fest series, all senior riders will be guaranteed a minimum of four rides leading to their own final against riders of similar ability. There will be a complete ranking from the winner down to the last-placed rider.
Keirin racing is fast, dramatic and incredibly exciting to watch and there will also be plenty of other things for spectators to do as well as great food and a bar.

Keirin-Fest is the fruit of co-operation between the Velo Club de Londres, Brixton Cycling Club and the organisers of Speed, Skill and Sausages (London's second biggest track event - www.addicts.tv). Juniors, women, and Go-Race novices are encouraged to enter.
