Entries Invited for Welwyn Omnium - 21st July

There is still time to enter the third round in the National Track Series at Welwyn. A prize fund of £120 has been put up by Twickenham Cycling Club, which will make this one of the richest rounds of the series.

Already committed to ride this omnium is the defending series winner from 2006 and current series leader, Janet Birkmyre of Planet X-SheCycles.com and she will continue her battle with her closest rivals, who include Helen Scott of Halesowen, Victoria Pendleton of Science in Sport and Siobhan Mullen of Team Chance.

Welwyn is the home track of up and coming youth rider, Laura Trott (Welwyn Wheelers), whose talents will not be underestimated by any of the older riders. Laura took the youth national circuit title a couple of weeks back, to cement what is already a great season for her.

Racing starts at 12:00 and will include a Derny fest as well as the usual Omnium races:

I've recently bought a Specialized Sirrus D4W with skinny 700x28c tyres.

During a charity cycle ride around the country lanes of St Albans on Sunday I managed to puncture both wheels simultaneously at a checkpoint stop.

I was riding across some of that flinty gravel stuff, which upon closer inspection has cut my tyres to shreds.

Advice please?
1) My puncture-tastic day highlights my lack of knowledge of what terrain is ok to ride on with road tyres (although I figured out skidding round a bend on gravel wasn't a good thing). Any tips most welcome.
2) Can I fix/seal the tyres? - they've got little holes in them where the flint went in?
3) What product is best for sealing tubes to avoid punctures? (slime?)
4) ...
