Jenny with the Slipstreamers |
The Minet Festival Grand Prix isn't just about racing as the day featured stalls,
events and Go-Ride for all interested cyclist's.
On hand to award a Clubmark certificate to Hillingdon resident youth cycling
club, the Hillingdon Slipstreamers was Jenny Copnall, reigning UK MTB champion.
Clubmark is a Sport England initiative which accredits clubs from all sports
which have passed a high standard of checks and, as a result, are specifically
suitable for children and young people to attend. Clubmark is a linking tool
between schools and community sport (and schools can use it safe in the knowledge
that their recommendations are sound).
Jenny spent the rest of day riding with, coaching and enthuses a horde of young
riders. She told us that; 'It was really lovely to see their excitement and
enthusiasm for the whole cycling thing. I had some parents speaking to me later
about how their kids could continue cycling (the ones that had come on the "taster"
session) so I really hope that they will make it a regular thing.'
She also said that her role at the Minet Park Festival was on behalf of Sporting
Champions (a Sport England run scheme that gets athletes into schools and communities
to encourage, inspire and motivate young people to play and achieve in sport).
