National 25m Time Trial

Having medalled with great consistency over recent years, but never having won a national title before the 2007 season, Julia Shaw of GS Strada, makes it two out of two, by taking the National 25m Time Trial this weekend.

Julia took the title for the 10m TT title just a couple of weeks ago and made sure of making her mark this year, when she took the 25 mile title by a significant 35 seconds from Ruth Eyles (Beacon RCC), who was just 5 seconds faster than Rithie Manly (Rapha Condor)

With Wendy Houvenaghel, last years champion, choosing not to start, there was always going to be a new title holder. Houvenaghel has not been seen in competition since she had to settle for a 4th place at the World Track Championships earlier this year. The result belied her awesome form, but she was suffering from a strained intercostel muscle and her no-show at the 10 and 25 mile time trails is ominous.

Signed up for a 25 - it is the club championship and I fancied taking on the other girls. I have not done a 25 for about 20 years. went and rode the course yesterday and it took me about 1 hour 25. Admittedly - I only put the big ring in for the last 5 miles, but I was not poddleing for the rest. 25 miles felt a very long way on my own.

In my younger days, I used to push 52 x13 were ever possible and rode flat out from the start whatever the event. I don't think I could turn that now going down a hill.

what tactics do any of you use?
