Spiuk Yara eyewear: TESTED

Spiuk_Yara

SPIUK have been established for 10 years and they supply kit to Marga Fullana the 2006 Cross Country Champion, as well as the boys from Illes Balearas, which includes Alejandro Valverde.

Their sole objective is to provide top quality products to cater for the needs of top grade sportsmen and women and the good news is that we can benefit from all their hard work too.

I recently tested the Yara glasses, which look fabulous and with a choice of 9 colours there will be one that looks great with your kit. As a contact lens user, I am very fussy about the glasses I wear. As a minimum, they have to give great protection to my eyes from the best and the worst of the weather, as well as all the stuff that comes flying off the wheel in front and, of course, offer excellent peripheral vision, while looking stylish. OK, so I admit it, some women do shoes and handbags, I do sunglasses!

I took the SPIUK Yara glasses out to Provence for a week of hard riding and potentially hard criticism from my team mates and passed all the tests with flying colours! They come complete with 3 lenses (clear, orange enhancer and platinum). In truth, I had hoped that I would not have the opportunity to test anything other than the platinum, but the first day was cold, wet and dark, so I quickly had to rethink my options. Happily the lenses are coated with an anti fogging treatment and I can confirm that it works!

The visual clarity from all of the lenses is great, and in addition to anti-fogging they are shatterproof and anit-scratch - all a minimum for cycling eyewear I would suggest.

The frames themselves are made of Grilamid, which is tough, flexible and ultralight. The end result is a reassuringly snug and very comfortable fit, where your eye lashes do not catch on the lenses and in addition (yes, I know we are not supposed to) they sit on the top of your head if you need to as well.

All this for £50 and you get a hard, titianium effect case and cleaning bag as well!

Verdict

The visual clarity from all of the lenses is great, and in addition to anti-fogging they are shatterproof and anit-scratch - all a minimum for cycling eyewear I would suggest.

Has anyone tested these? IS the "Hydrophobic lens coating" really effective?
What about prescription lenses, do they offer this service?
