When you pick up this jacket you will be surprised just at how light it is and it is packed full of features, which make it very functional as well. This jacket got the thumbs up even before I had a chance to put it to the test proper, as the two friends who were with me when I put it on (one female and one male) both instantly commented that the fit was more flattering than they had expected (in hindsight, perhaps that reflects more on me than the jacket ….?!)

I have worn Polaris jackets in the past and found the cut very cycling friendly and the design functional - this jacket did not disappoint on either front.
It represents great value for money at £49.99. It is both waterproof and breathable, with fully taped seams and a storm flap protecting the zip, all of which promises to keep you warm and dry. It also has a mesh lining that further helps to wick away moisture and is cut long at the back, with a further small flap that can be released from two press studs, to give good protection from mud and water spray from your back wheel.
In addition it has elasticated cuffs, with Velcro adjustment, a drawstring hem and two pockets with waterproof zips. It also has a further zipped pocket, just inside the storm flap of the main zip which makes is very secure, and the entire jacket can be packed away into this to form a neat bum bag, with its own elasticated band that clips around your waist. Finally, there is also the very thoughtful addition of reflective piping down the back panels, which adds an element of safety, as well as soft fabric at the neck for comfort.
I took this jacket on a mountain biking holiday to NZ. My bike is not the lightest so everything I pack has to perform at least two functions to make the cut. This jacket was included on the basis that it could be used on the bike, walking and even in the extreme environment of down town Wellington on a night out. In all of these outings it did not fail me once.
There is no doubt the jacket is very well thought out and in my opinion the only thing it lacks is under arm (pit) zips, to add a little more ventilation. Then again, given the price, I think this jacket has everything and more than should be expected.
To get the best out of any jacket it should of course be teamed with a high performance wicking base layer, but you will know that anyway …
