Cycling Scotland Ingliston Criterium Series 2007

road_race_women

The 2007 Ingliston Criterium Series sponsored by Cycling Scotland kicks off on Thursday12 April at the Royal Highland Showground just west of Edinburgh. Now in its 9th season and this year expanded to 6 events, the series is expected to attract many of Scotland's top elite, women and junior riders. Established professional riders such as Alex Coutts, Evan Oliphant, Jack Woodward and last year's Premier Series winner Gary Hand have cut their teeth at these events before going on to bigger things.

In the female category, British team members Jo Cavill and Kate Cullen (Commonwealth Games Bronze medallist) have also been frequent entrants. Other established stars such as Commonwealth Games Bronze medallist James McCallum and top mountain bikers the Creber brothers are regular participants.

This popular series of midweek road races held on a traffic-free circuit at Ingliston Showground, near Edinburgh airport. Each meeting features two races:

  • The Go-ride event is open to 4th category riders (novices). If you are new to road racing, the Ingliston criterium series is an ideal introduction to the sport. You can experience the excitement of being part of a fast moving racing bunch in a traffic free environment.
  • The Premier event provides competitive racing for more experienced riders.

    Women's race on 28th April

The successful formula for the series events which regularly attract fields of around 90 riders, is the same as in previous years with entry on the line only. A new development for this series is to hold two events on Saturdays. The first of these on 28 April will feature a women's only race. The final round on Saturday 26 May will host the Scottish Youth Criterium Championships. The other rounds will be held on Thursdays April 12, and 19 and May 3 and 10, starting at 18.30

The series is promoted by Edinburgh RC-The Bicycleworks/Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor offers a prize fund valued around £1000. In addition to the main sponsor, Cycling Scotland, support has been provided by Pedal power, ISO, and David Banns Restaurant. Spectators and people interested in taking up cycle racing are welcome at the events. Admission is free.

Cycling Scotland which also sponsored the series last year, is Scotland's largest cycling promotion organisation whose vision is to make cycling an acceptable, practical and attractive lifestyle option for the residents of Scotland. For more information please contact neil.muir@virgin.net
