The engines roar, the ground shakes and the riders fly
|
Last seen in 2005 the 2007 Good Friday Track meeting on April 6 sees the return
of motor pacing at Herne Hill, when the roar of the mighty Triumph Thunderbirds
will resonate across the Herne Hill Olympic track.
The motor paced Stayers race pits rider against rider, each rider attempts to use the slipstream
of a pacing Triumph Thunderbird to gain an advantage.
Riders will
have to work hard to stay on the pace and you can feel the track rumbling
as they race by at fast speeds.
Stayers racing is huge on the continent and the Pacers are almost as famous
as the riders, many of whom play to the crowd often sporting dashing mustache's
to set them apart.

- Timo Scholz - 3rd European Stayers Champs 2006, 2nd German Stayers
Champs 2005 and 2006.
- Florian Fernow - 3rd German Stayers Champs 2006, 4th European Stayers Champs
2006.
- Edwin Smeulders - Rode in 2005, a very experienced rider. Belgian champion
many times
- Roymond Rol and Tim van derZanden are both very experienced
- Emilien Clere - 4 times Stayer Champion of France, 2nd Stayers GP Ghent 2007
- Bryan Taylor - local star and past UK champion

- The traditional Good Friday Meeting will be held at South London’s Herne
Hill Velodrome on April 6.
- First promoted in 1903, this Southern Counties Cycling Union event is set
to continue in the manner which has become its hallmark - exciting, entertaining
racing featuring top class riders from home and abroad.
