Series winner Charlotte Blackman heads the pack |
In the final round of WCRA / Team MK handicap series it was youngster Lucy Garner
(Leicestershire RC) who took the win, but Charlotte Blackman (London Dynamo) who
took the overall series victory.
Laura Bissell (GS Strada) made the first move of the race breaking away from
the scratch group after a few laps and quickly gaining half a lap, going straight
past the intermediate and novice groups in the process.
The scratch group steadily
caught the two groups in front, first the novices and then the intermediates
forming a larger group that proved too large a challenge for Bissell to crack
as she hovered at around a 1’15” lead over them for the rest of
the race.
The bunch seemed content to set a steady pace, but without any concerted attacks
the remaining four riders from the novice group, Lucy Garner, Claire Yearby,
Lynne Coldray (both Team Milton Keynes) and Susan Wood (Southend Wheelers),
never looked in danger of losing their remaining 1 lap handicap advantage. On
the line it was Charlotte Colclough (Fat Birds CC) who took the sprint, but
Lucy Garner who took the win and Charlotte Blackman safely in the bunch taking
the three race series.
