We tested the 2006 version
|
Ever since the arrival of the Sonoma to the Specialized women's shoe range we've been a fan, and each year they get a revamp that pleases us even more. We tested the 2006 Sonoma over several months and for a variety of uses too and they still look pretty new and presentable despite some abuse.
Our preferred use for the Sonoma would have to be around town where the smooth sole works a treat on pavements and most certainly doesn't look out of placein a cafe or shop. Back on the bike the sole is stiff enough to provide good support and the pedal inface works well with flat pedals and spd's. If you prefer spd pedals you'll be pleased to see the recessed cleat area which allows easy walking and protects the cleat too.
The sleek design really doesn't give away the Sonoma's dual purpose skills and nice details such as reflective strips and velcro strap to keep the laces out of the chain are subtle and effective. Fit is comfortable and the padded ankle area works well on and off the pedals, as does the padded tongue. With the exception of torrential downpours the shoe keeps out most rain and bad weather and are great for year round use.
Just out is the new 2007 Women's Sonoma with a secure 2-strap Velcro closure system, real suede uppers with vented mesh panels too. Another new look to this classic shoe!
Verdict
