Good women's fit with technical attributes
|
You can't beat a good baselayer for making winter riding bearable and they are so handy for other sports too, skiing, hiking and running to name only a few.
Unlike most close fitting baselayers the Hybrid Zip Turtle has a very functional zip that is deep enough to give good ventilation when you are warmed up, but which fits closely around the neck when you need to retain heat. It was a real bonus to find that I could easily open and close the zip with full finger gloves on, a vital detail to look out for.
The fit was excellent, close to the body, but with no restriction of movement - it felt like a second skin. The main body is Helly's Prowool fabric, their well tested polypropylene with a twist of Merino wool providing more weight and increased thermal properties for cold days. Under arm panels are contructed from the new Lifa fabric, being a lighter weight fabric give better ventilation and less bulk where you most need it. In addition the slightly longer length at the back allowed for generous tuck in and comfort on the bike on chilly days when draughts are particularly unwelcome.
Most important of all, I remained dry and warm despite the worst the Chilterns could throw at me in terms of hills and driving rain, even with a stop to repair a puncture. I cannot stress enough the importance of getting the right base layer, if you want to keep dry and comfortable on the bike. In my opinion, this Helly Hansen base layer is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors.
