2006 action

Team Luciano-Kuota ran out overall winners in the 2006 Women's Team Race Series
with a massive 511 points cushion to second placed team CC Giro with new team
Team QCP in 3rd place - the 4th time in succession that Team Luciano have proved
to be the top team in the UK.
In those 4 years, they have ridden 35 races and gained 22 team victories, that
is a 62.8% success rate and have had the winning rider on 8 occasions, which
really does prove their ethos that team success is more important than individual
success.
For 2007 they have signed a new sponsorship deal with Everest Double Glazing.
Dudley Samuels, the boss of Luciano Cycles, has further shown his commitment
to women's cycling by continuing his overall sponsorship of the Team Series.
The standard of women's racing has greatly improved over the years to such an
extent that it is generally agreed that it is difficult to say who is going
to win a race; for the first time when riders line up there are at least 15
riders who can win the race, that has to be a positive in women's racing that
the depth has really improved.
Luciano team leader Diane Moss says "It has got the point where we are
now looking at a races terrain to decide who might be in with a chance for the
win, and work our team tactics accordingly".
Obviously the younger riders who are coming through are making a difference
even if they have yet to learn to ride as a team and employ team tactics but
their enthusiasm cannot be knocked and they add a vital spark to the Team Series.
"The Team Series has just got better and better over the past 6 years",
says Di Moss, "the original aim of bringing new and inexperienced riders
into the sport is working well, showing them what a great sport this is and
that can only be good for cycling".
Now entering it's 7 year, the Team Series has about 11 teams riding and for
this season, although we mourn the loss of the 'Danny Boy' event in Limavady,
there are 2 new events.
Welland Valley CC will be organising a race on 5 August at Naseby with Paul
Tomlinson as the organiser whilst a new race in the Midlands will be held on
12 August at Stratford upon Avon with Steve Faulkner organising.
Rule changes mean that teams must now register before 1 April with an affiliation
fee of £30 sent to Team Series coordinator Jon Miles plus organisers will
have to send a levy of £1 for each rider in their race.
At then end of each event, the first 6 riders will receive their prize money
but the Team prize will be sent to the Team Series coordinator. As usual, individual
riders will be welcomed but they will not be eligible to win any prize money;
individual riders will still be able to ride as part of the Impsport Composite
Team- race jerseys kindly supplied by Impsport UK.
