The 'Hell of the Ashdown' Challenge Sunday 28th January 2007
For years the Catford Cycling Club have run a reliability trial every January
for club riders. As a rude awakening to mark the end of the social season and
a start to 'getting the miles in' as preparation for racing competition.
This year all the proceeds go to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The 2007 version of this tough event has now been re-branded the 'Hell of the
Ashdown' Challenge and is being promoted as a winter Charity Ride open to all:
Racers, Tourists and Leisure Cyclists, alike.
The 104k (65mile) event tackles the toughest terrain Kent has to offer. The
route is relentless with numerous brutal climbs. Anyone gaining a certificate
for completing this severe course within 5hours can pride themselves that they
have combated the worst that the fiendish organiser can devise!
The 54k (33mile) event although covering half the distance and avoiding some
of the most severe climbs, will still prove a challenge to the leisure cyclist.
They will have to contend with whatever the harsh winter weather chooses to
throw at them and prove their stamina around this tough circuit. Their target
will be to beat the 3hr15min time limit.
Both events start from Knockholt (Kent) Village Hall on Sunday 28th January
2007. The first group off leaves at 9am. The entry fee of £5 (which includes
'on-ride' refreshment) goes to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. All entrants
are welcome to encourage sponsors to contribute to the charity if they manage
complete the course within the time limit.
