This weekend was the European Championships in Hittnau, Switzerland. Competing
for Global Racing Team were Gabby Day and Helen Wyman. After a planned slower
start to the season, Helen was placed on the Second row for the start of the
hilly course, which was going to test the best riders strength all the way to
the finish.

Having taken the decision to focus her season on the World Championships at
the end of January, Helen has only just got into the stride of cyclo-cross training
having taken part in the road Worlds at the end of September.
Despite the second row start, Helen let the race after only 500 metres and
was powering away from the field through the drizzle that had started shortly
before the race got under way. However this rain was to cause Helen as few problems
on the very technical decent and forced her to change her tyre selection after
the first lap. This cost Helen a few places and at the same times, defending
champion Daphny van den Brand took over the lead of the race in her usual aggressive
style.
Meanwhile, Gabby Day who had had a promising start to her race being well in
the top 20, had taken a serious fall and had to abandon the race.
Helen was now left with the prospect of the race long battle to regain the
lead riders and gave 100% to get back, however she had to settle for 7th place
behind winner Daphny, who took her 3rd title in a row.
The Global Racing Riders now move on to Pijnaker for the 2nd round of the Women’s
World Cup where both riders will be looking for good performances on a very
familiar circuit.
In the next few weeks, Global Racing will be announcing its new sponsors and
new team line-up for 2008 it what looks to be a very exciting set-up.
