Sunday 11th December at Manchester Velodrome, Day 3 Track World Cup Event
The final day of track racing saw crashes, tears and glory for the women riders. The Women's Scratch race saw two big stacks taking almost half the field down leaving the door open for Adrie Visser to take the Gold home to Holland. Silver went to
Katherine Bates whilst Spain's Gema Pascual Torrecilla won a Bronze medal to match her Bronze in the Women's Points Race. Bates added this Silver to her Gold from the Individual Pursuit, making a fine collection of precious metals from the Manchester Velodrome.
The Women's Keirin was ruled by the twice world champion, France's Clara Sanchez followed by Elisa Frisoni from Italy taking the Silver, and UK's Victoria Pendleton riding for Science in Sport earning herself another Bronze model.
Our estimate is that the UK won 9 medals over the weekend, a great feat and well appreciated by the home crowds too. Detailed race reports and result listings can be found on www.britishcycling.org.uk
There is more Track World Cup action to come in the new year, next up is Los Angeles 20-22th January 2006 followed by Sydney 3-5th March 2006. Keep your eyes on www.uci.ch for full details soon.
