Protective Johanna jacket
|
This is a fantastically lightweight jacket (just 250g), that is incredibly versatile, packed with useful features and looks good too.
It is a windproof and shower resistant outer layer, meaning that it keeps you warm and dry in all but full on rain and it packs away into it's own back pocket, or simply rolls up to fit into a pocket of a cycling jersey.
The close weave polyester fabric is called 'Protective Wind Defence' (PWD) and claims to keep you dry when riding for over half an hour of light rain. I found that to be a fair claim and particularly liked how quickly it dried out when it did get wet.
In fact, it is a great choice for Autumn, because it is more breathable than a waterproof and so did not get wet on the inside from sweat, and in addition it is lighter and less restrictive to movement than most waterproof layers.
The fit is generous enough to allow you to vary the number of layers put on underneath to suit the outside temperature, but is does not flap around. I have found that I have taken it on every ride since the weather turned a little cooler and have never regretted it.
I loved the soft fabric at the collar and cuffs, which give a snug fit, but at the same time feel great next to your skin and ensure there is no chaffing. If you don't already know just how uncool it is to have a chaffed chin on a Monday morning, then count yourself lucky!
It has a good sized rear pocket, which importantly is zipped, so there is no chance of losing your valuables and the zip has a reflective strip around it for added visibility. The Protective logos on the back and front are also reflective, but I would not rely solely on either of these to keep me safe on the roads when it starts to get dark.
Verdict
A great jacket for Autumn, Spring and those rare mild winter days.
Soft collar lining and lightweight
Not a winter jacket but good for warmer days
