Helly Hansen Freeze Prowool 1/2 Zip Turtle

Helly Hansen is not a cycling specific brand, however, their thirty years of experience in wet (sailing) and cold (skiing) sports, have allowed them combined the most advance of technologies to offer the best performance base layers for all athletes. This is where we can take advantage of their beautifully made base layers for the cold wet winters of the UK.

Made with 62% Merino wool and 38% Polypropylene, the Freeze Prowool ½ Zip Turtle baselayer is of the HH Warm™ family. It has been designed for the stop start activities where you would normally freeze because of excess moisture build up and cool down. Inspired by the fur of the polar bear, the unique hollow lifa® T3™ technology insulates and allows for moisture evacuation. The superfine merino wool has zero itch factor and is ultra warm.

The Freeze Prowool does live up to its high profile resume. We found that it does keep you warm and dry when used in the correct temperature range. You certainly do not freeze but when used in slightly warmer temperatures, you may overheat, consequently sweat excessively and thus become wet and maybe cold.

The invisible ½ zip front allows for heat adjustment and integrates well with the over style. A lined seam free collar is high on the neck but not restrictive, as other high collared garments can be. The flat lock feature stitching looks great and is very flattering as it accentuates the feminine cut of the garment.

The feminine cut of the garment is almost perfect, no, actually it is perfect! However, it may not be the cut, but of course that does help, it could be the fabric. It has a lot of give and stretches in the appropriate places. The arms are a very comfortable length with low bulk cuffs. A feature that suits cyclists in the Freeze Prowool is the lower curved back, perfect for the bent over position to prevent back exposure.
