Hi Dr Hurst, hope you can help. In the past 6 weeks I have been getting urinary discomfort after every bike ride (usually the following day). I have tried drinking cranberry which helps and have taken Canesten but my worry is why all of a sudden am I getting this after years of cycling and is there any long-term remedy ? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks CJ

Its a natural sugar that is spossed to line the wall of the bladder stopping the bacteria from clinging on.... what ever the claims , i used to get cystitis all the time before it took this and since i started using it, i havnt had one for over 18 months .
Now I only take it if i think ive been bashed about a bit or if im dehydrated. I'll also eat a rennie to keep me alkaline. Have a look at there web site, the lady is really helpful on the phone too.

cj-

might be the position of your saddle, the pressure of placed on your sensitive areas whilst riding, esp if your saddle is putting more pressure in the opposite direction. i had a similar problem, and though i've been plagued with cystitis, i seemed to be getting a new infection every week after a long ride, and someone suggested changing saddle position just slightly, and it has helped tremendously!

good luck!!

Thanks D, found out the cystitis I thought I had was in fact a symptom of thrush which raised its head a month after the cystitis type symptoms appeared - never had it in my life before so didn't realise. The saddle thing might help too if it ever comes back but Canesten sorted me out this time thank god. cheers for all the advice though girls. CJ

Hi,
I'm new to cycling and have found that I'm very sore, 'crushed' and numb with mild cytitus/thrush type symptoms after every ride. I did a tri last sunday and haven't been able to face getting back on the bike since.
I'm wearing padded shorts and have a ladies saddle - what changes to saddle position will help??
