although it's getting a bit cold for this to be relevant anymore, I spent a good portion of the summer looking for a bright yellow vest top to wear while commuting - I have a couple of yellow longsleeves, but they were too hot & uncomfortable in august, yet I just don't feel as safe wearing white or red. I know when I'm in that lovely fluorescent yellow that EVERYONE can see me...
anyone got a recommendation?

Look at the sugoi microfine beam gilet - comes in bright yellow. Girlsruntoo stock them.

thanks for the advice, but I'm looking for a tank or a what Girlsruntoo call a shimmel, not the sort of thing you wear over the top of another layer... although I did find the Sugoi fizz tank in 'fanta' which might be bright enough for me... any other suggestions out there?

 Hi Sarah
Altura do a flo jacket - gillet style. I have one myself and although it looks a bit naff, I do feel safer wearing one as I know I can been seen from miles away.
It's £19.99 and should be available most places. Be warned, the sizing is very generous. I have a small and there's room to spare under my motorbike leathers!

I've got a sleeveless Pearl Izumi jersey that's bright orangey-yellow. It's a size too big for me so I've only worn it a couple of times, I'll get some pictures if you're interested.
Or, Minx stock the Radius vest in fluo yellow. Loud ;o)

okay, so I spent all winter rummaging through sales bins in the hope that I might find something... now I'm spending my lunchtimes rooting around cycle shops & the internet and haven't found anything yet!
the top I'm looking for is the kind of thing you wear today (it's about 25 degrees out there!) a no-sleeve single layer - with built in bra if poss (but not that fussy on that bit)- often called a shimmel or a tank
important bit is that it needs to be fluorescent. my problem with wiggle is that I can't sort the website by colour!
how come when I walk into evans there are 3 different bright yellow t-shirts for men, but the girls stuff is all pink and pale blue? are girls not interested in being visible?
closest thing I've found is a Sugoi top called Oracle, in a colour called Acid... but it's a bit steep at £50!

I've often wondered why girls' cycling stuff is always baby blue and pink. I have a great bright orange adidas top which I found in a normal sports shop, so I'd suggest widening your search to the JJB Sports etc.

You can get the sugoi oracle top in yellow on ugogirl for 33pounds...see here

When I was looking for a jacket North Face also had some good stuff in orange, so their summer range might have something in a brighter colour.

Terry's cycles do some decent bright yellow stuff, all womens specific. They ship to the UK, are very quick but you have to pay tax unless you have a friend in the US who will take delivery and send it on. www.terrybicyles.com

There's always the DIY approach - buy the sort of top you're looking for in plain white (or any pale colour), then get some fabric paint or dye in fluorescent yellow and colour it as bright as you like.
You could even add some flexible reflective strips for good measure!

Hi ladies - just saw this thread pop up on the newlsetter.
When I was getting my Hi-Viz sorted out recently, I decided to take a look around the "standard" Hi-viz suppliers (just put hi viz into google).
The fabrics used aren't technical, but the stuff is so cheap compared with cycling specific stuff (I paid about 12 quid for a waistcoat and a short sleeved polo, including p&p) that it might be worth a try as a base, with no fear of going for a bit of customisation as well.

as the weather got warmer this year I started to hunt again for this elusive garment - a flattering fit, neon yellow, proper breathable cycling top - for a size 10 girlie
I checked out the Terry's bicycles site (recommended above) and emailed Debbie at Minx (the UK stockist) and finally tracked down what I was really looking for... (drum roll please!) Sun Goddess jersey in neon yellow it wasn't hugely cheap, (£35) but it was so exactly what I wanted, I figured I'd spoil myself. Took delivery today (thanks Debbie!) - fits perfectly, is actually quite sexy (even in bright neon yellow) and is BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHT - those car drivers are going to see me coming!
now all I need is some summer-like weather so that I can actually wear it without freezing to death...

Bit late for this, but here goes. A lot of running gear is hi-vis technical fabrics. Brooks and Ron Hill do a range, but mostly sold in the winter. Like Slo-Boy said, the ordinary kind of H&S suppliers - Arco - sell high vis stuff much cheaper than bike shops for.
