Bibs? Or trouser-ish tights?

Hi all, trying to decide on tights...i know its a bit late in the season as it will start getting warm soon but i'm one of the people that's ALWAYS cold.

I really like pearl izumi's amfib tights but i think i'd really be better off with bibs...

any preference? why? are there warm, water resistant, durable, women's specific bibs out there?

they need to come in slightly bigger sizes as i'm a bit overweight and have huge hips anyway...also i'm on the shorter side, 5' 4". any suggestions???

I'd never go without my bib tights. They are so much better than normal tights and they don't tend to drop down whilst cycling like tights do (or is this just me?).

The only women's pair of bib tights I have are Assos, but these are a bit pricey. My other pair, Endura, are not women specific but are super toastie and slightly shower proof.

My Kona bib tights are also going strong after 10 years!

I think you'll need to try a few one as they are all different. Nike bib tights come up extremely small - I tried a large pair of men's bib and they were really tight and i'm a size 8!

Tights...

Bibs are a pain if you get caught short and need a pee

I have Endura bibs - not women specific as Bikescooby says. They're good, but I do find that I have to cross the shoulder straps over as they are too long (us girls having shorter bodies) and tend to slip down if I don't.

I've also had a problem with Endura tights being child sized although the bibs have been fine!

It would appear that I'm just a fickle tart and will wear either!

Just try lots on and see what you like in the price range you can afford

Bib tights for me as well, keeps the back nice and warm!

Agree with Radders try lots on, I've got Decathlon and Biemme small size and have not had a problem with straps falling down, but previously I have had to sew the straps up to make them shorter. Unfortunately there are very few women specific bibtights around - why is that?

See my comment on the 3/4 length thread.... I'll not get started again as I just won't stop!

I bought a pair of men's Assos 3/4 bibs. They are the best thing I have ever bought. A bit of pain when you need a pee but is 2 minutes hassle for hours of warmth & comfort.

Not a great believer in having to buy women specific gear unless it is for the top half. You can usually pick up a bargain if you can fit a small mens (which I think is equivalent of a womens medium). Even better you can rob your partner's gear!

Do you think anyone will ever invent some shorts so us girls can go for a pee on the roadside easily???

thanks ladies! just out of curiousity, is it ok to wear men's tights (i mean with the gusset thing)or does it really even matter? i don't really like layering tight things in that area...

I have a few pairs of mens shorts or bib tights - the only difference you'll notice is the chamois. The women's version is slightly different in shape. Some makes are better than others.
