My problem: Low energy and autoimmume response resulting in thyroid under activity. I can't ride as often or at the intensity I would like to any more, nor can I rock climb and I'm sick of this situation. Got any ideas on how to improve matters. I'm on correct dose of thyroxine but this does not fix energy situation. My diet is great: no gluten or caffine, occasionally I eat something with sugar in it, a very little bit of dairy excepting yoghurt which I eat plenty of. Also eat heaps of fruit, organic vegies and whole foods. I get plenty of meat or other proteins. There are some herbs that jiggle up my thyroid, so cant eat them, eg. seaweed, olive leaf extract, Thanks
No ideas I'm sorry but I do sympathise , my Mum and her sisters, her Mum, her sister and lots of other female relatives of mine have it and I know how much it wipes you out.
I don't have it yet but I'm sure its in the post! I had my levels baselined a couple of years ago and need to do it again soon, if its failing I want to know early!
How do you know your on the correct dose of Thyroxine? My mum was told several times she was on the "correct" does and she really wasn't, she is on something pretty high now 350 mg or even more (is it micro grams ?). She's been noticeably better since on this dose but she isn't trying to support an exercise habit.
My mom was hypot4 as well but she wasn't active in a sporty way. She didn't changer her diet because of it though, just ate normally. Have you been tested for other conditions that may be contributing to energy loss, and are you eating complex carbs to help with your levels?

This is a really good point, I have had this experience also. My current GP uses blood tests, she also asks me how I am feeling. She thinks my problem stems from my gut, but how to fix it is the problem. Unlike many folk thyroid problems do not run in my family, like it seems to in yours. Yeah I think it is another condition and I have had tests but come up with nothing. I do eat plenty of complex carbs or I can grind to a halt! My GP seems to think it comes from my gut. My homeopath has done the most useful work, but I don't react as well as I should and she is running low on ideas. Thanks
Has your GP referred you to a specialist for your thyroid?
Also you say you don’t eat gluten and your GP seems to think the problem may come from your gut – have you been tested for Coeliac, (wheat & gluten intolerance)? I’ve been told sometimes both can be connected? May be worth a try )
Thanks for that one, I did mention to my GP that I can't cope with gluten, but she did not pick up on it. Actually I have wondered about Coeliac and whether that might be a problem, I'll look into getting myself tested.
