Great website. I want to replace my very old bike for something more modern. I tend to do cycle paths, made up forest trails, etc with my two children - not much on roads at the moment or mountain biking/rough terrain but this could change as the children get older. I've been to two local bike shops and was advised to consider the Giant Sedona by one and a Ridgeback MX2 by another (although he also mentioned a Trek). Tried them both and they seemed OK and suited to my height (as I'm only 5ft) but not sure which is the better bike. Anyone able to offer any advice or experience of either of these?
I just googled both the MX2 and the Sedona, both came up with a standard type frame and a womens version with a step through type frame? Which sort of frame have you been looking at?
I have been looking at the womens step through frame
did a bit of photoshop messing around and found out that the basic geometry (excepting the crossbar)
is almost identicle. the ridgeback has a more off road basis, mega range gears and adjustable forks. But does more "bits" for only £40 more mean the general quality will be lower than the Giant?
How about Bluebubbles Tassajara see separate thread, depending on wether your budget would stretch to that but I imagine you'd get a lot more bike for your bucks and no need to upgrade later if you do get into more off road type stuff.
Here if my link works!? It's a thread in the bikes bit of the forum anyway. The Tassajara, assuming in OK condition would be more bike for the money, and as LaLa said above if you got into a bit more off-road riding would be good for that.
Either the Ridgeback of the Giant quality wise I think would be about the same, both well known manufacturers, frames will both be similar build quality. Think about what fits you best/feels most comfortable and what really suits the riding you do. Shop around a bit more, always look at 2007 models that places still have in stock, some good savings to be had that way can get a bit more for your money.
