I'm in Flint and MTB - that's almost the Wirral , and I tend to go out during the week evenings in the Clwyd's or Llandegla. Is that too far away from you? I'd go eastwards as well but I don't know where, and I'm open to suggestions...

I can't help with the on road - I'd like to try it but I can't afford to buy another bike at the moment

I don't know about England but some of the northern routes in the Clwyd's are near Mold - how's that for you? Check out http://www.ridetheclwyds.com for routes, and also the NE Wales Bikefax (tho some of the routes are in the book and on the website). I went out on a North Wales MBA ride last night which started at Mold Leisure Centre - a good bunch of guys, happy to wait around for the slower people, and a good route even though we started from the town!

I think theres MTB routes round Delamere forest as well but I haven't tried it out yet....

I guess that Llandegla is a bit far for you on a weeknight - it's open till 9pm tues/wed/thurs.

I'm on holiday from saturday for a week, but maybe we can meet up the week after?

Cheers, l.
