I'VE JUST MOVED TO AMBLESIDE AND WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANY FELLOW FEMALE BIKERS OUT THERE TO RIDE WITH? IT'S NOT THE SAME TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH MY SHADOW!
Lucky you, we go there a lot for hols. Do ride up there but don't live there unfortunately.
Sol - you could try Kendal Mountaineering Club, I know there are a few lady mtb'ers there. I'm in North Wales so can't help you out sorry .
Thank you Lou - might give them a try if I'm feeling brave 'mountaineering' on my bike sounds epic!
Bike Treks in Ambleside do rides on a Tuesday and Thursday and I'm sure Keswick Mountain Bikes do a similar thing. They list them on their website and that could be a way to meet local riders, I too live in North Wales but am originally from the Lakes!
I was going to suggest Biketreks as I knew they did regular rides. They are nice people I'm sure they would be able to suggest some local girlies to ride with.
Thanks everyone - I've seen the groups gathering and they are all padded up males!GULP!
I don't think KMC are that hardcore! My mate is a member and while she is really into her climbing, her mtb'ing is more of a pootle round Claiffe Trying the bike shops might be worth it first! Don't forget Wheelhouse in Staveley as well...
Or Wheelbase
Or organise a ride on here, I know I'd travel up to the lakes for a ride!
Hi Sol...definitely go to Biketreks, go upstairs to the clothing bit and have a chat with Keith.(Say Angela sent you!!) I'm sure he'd be more than happy to help you and may well know of female riders in the area. I met my husband on a Tuesday night Biketreks ride!! You couldn't live in a better place! I'm in Ulverston but we are over that way all the time.

Hi Sol I live in Penrith and am just getting into mountain biking. I also would not like to ride with a load of men so I would be up for a ride.
Yep Keith in Biketresk is a dear he is the only man that could dress any woman better than they could dress themselves ! You'd have to meet him to know what I mean but he always knows whats practical and what goes with what. He should be on with Trinny and Susanna...
LOL Carolyn...but not on with Gok...he'd eat poor Keith alive!!
 Aw yes poor thing..
I also would not like to ride with a load of men
It's great getting out with blokes, on a recent ride in the Lakes I had 4 punctures and I didn't have to do a thing, it's not that I can't do it but blokes can't resist just wading in and taking over and who am I to stop them and they do it so much quicker than me and no tyre levers requied
LOL @ LaLa! Yes, very true, such chivalry. It might be worth trying the Bogtrotters (www.bogtrotters.org), the ride leader often posts on Singletrack (simonfbarnes). Beginners rides on Sat, longer rides on Sunday but all at a decent social pace, pub/cafe afterwards and there's often quite a few girls out with the group too. Usually a fair range of ability but no-one gets left behind and the rides are very varied and often a lot more than the usual Lakes fare that you get in the guide books or laminated maps. Contact info and rides list on the website.

Yeah, I must say, I've been meaning to go out with the Bogtrotters for a year or so now, and still haven't managed it! Must try harder! I have a friend who rides with them a lot.

Sol, I've tried to pm you a couple of times, but they bounce as 'message returned' . Please try a pm to me with your email address. Thanks!
