M&S home insurance

On the recommendation of several here we took out M&S home insurance to give us decent cover for our copious pricey bikes. We haven't had the need to use it thankfully but just got the premium renewal through the post this morning and where we were paying £24.81 a month they're now asking for £33.24. Has anyone elses gone up?

I'm wondering if perhaps cancelling it and taking out a new policy with them might do the trick and lower it a bit?

Or are there any other insurers out there who offer similar cover for a more reasonable price?

Thanks

I think the CO-OP are pretty good, we are with PaymentSheild through our mortgage broker and bikes are covered under valuable items. We got a requote from them rather than go with the renewal and saved quite a few £'s don't know if others wil do it but it's worth a try, but i'd suggest that rates are probably goign up across the board just as everything else is!

Moobag

I/ we have M & S and never had to claim but premium goes down every year not up.... maybe question?

M & S was the only one that has such a good item by item cover

Hmmm. Well OH has just spoken to M&S and they absolutely refuse to budge on the price. Tried doing a search on here for threads on 'insurance', as I know a few people replied with recommendations at the time, but keep getting an 'internal server' error or somesuch.

Can anyone help with other insurance company recs? We have 4 bikes totalling about £10k all told.

Hi Moobag, did M&S say why it had gone up so much? Our Tesco pet insurance went up 50% one year when one dog turned 10, then increased again a year later when the other dog turned 10 - it doubled from £20 to £40 in two years. When I phoned I at least got an answer why (dogs getting old and cranky and more likely to have problems).

We have M&S insurance which has stayed in the low £20s for the last few years so will be looking up my renewal date and keeping an eye on it.

Do you live in an area that got flooded last year? A lot ofg insurances have gone up because of last summer/this January's floods.  If you live in an area that got flooded, but weren't flooded yourself, then you need to get you local Environment Agency office to write up a letter saying that you weren't affected.  If this is the case, I'll get the right address for you if you tell me where you live.

They weren't really specific about why it had gone up - they apparently muttered something about how they always make a loss in the first couple of years of any policy and always have to put the prices up.

We're not in an area that got flooded either Alice - we're out to the west of Nottingham and the closest flooding was way way out to the east (about 30-40 miles away).

Interestingly Tesco home insurance seem to be coming in the best at the moment - they'll cover us for all our bikes, no extra charge. The only thing they don't cover is cover away from home or accidental cover but they're two things we'd never really think to want anyway - it's theft from the house while we're at work we're most worried about.

We went for M&S because of the cover away from home, but we go away with the bikes a lot.

A friend lost a brand new high spec Nomad on a flight and two years later, despite solicitor's letters, he's still hundreds of £s out of pocket. On flights I'm always nervous my bike to come back bent.
