I'm thinking about it. I really need to get some off road miles in, just been bumbling on the roads recently. 4 laps would be plenty for me, might enter for 5 just in case I feel miraculously fitter than I actually am or just suicidal.

I'm up for it too, just can't work out how many laps...!

I have signed up for 4 laps, will be taking it nice and steady and hoping I won't get run over by the speed demons!

It looks like a snorkel might be a useful piece of equipment if the weather doesn't improve. I haven't been there for a while but I seem to remember Swinley drains reasonably well but after all this rain it must be interesting.  Would someone have any tyre recommendations? Go for full on mud tyres (currently got trail rakers on) or something bit more rolling?

I am using the only tyres i have, maxxis ignitors. they seem to work on anything, its sandy at gorrick and was hard work last year. i am doing 4  slow laps also !!

I use continental XC pro's all the time have some trail rakers but to be honest if its muddy enough to be using them I wont ride for environmental reasons...

Well how did everyone get on? I hope u all got your medals? it was a fantastic course wasn't it?

I got about 27.5 miles into my 40 miler and was hit rather hard by some bloke who seemed to think he could overtake me between 2 trees, both of us ending up in a big heap. He said "that's racing" and that he was "tired", until the 2 guys behind pointed out that it was a very foolish thing to do and that he should take responsibility for his actions... this is the only thing that puts me off these events...that and there being no marshals or first aid staff on track.. walking back over 2 miles bleeding and battered and dragging a busted bike was not fun either.

I now have a bent rear mech and handlebars, and some mighty impressive bruises and what feels like a cracked rib or two...whilst he carried on and probabaly got his medal...and this is fun huh??

That's terrible!!! That is such appalling behaviour and I think these sort of people should be banned from taking part in any events! I think Gorrick should take this really seriously and blacklist arrogant gits like that. A mate of mine mentioned seeing an inceident that pretty much matches your description... wonder if it was you.

I managed to complete my 4 laps unscratched, really enjoyed the course and was pleased that my back didn't give me too much grief. I had a weird referred pain in my foot but pain in the foot is lot easier to tolerate than back pain...

Hope you're on the mend soon Sinead

sinead mate, thats bad my mate rich did 7 and said a majority of peeps were lovely (he was on a shonky old GT singlespeed!!) but there always is a few agressive so an so's, that is what puts of slow ones like me!!

But well done all of you for doing it, I went for a little ride and felt a bit  due to the beer from the night b4!!

Hey Gayle.. i was at twickers for the Army vs navy and still managed 4 laps on the sunday!!!... Sorry i didnt see you there.. if I had checked the BB more often then I would have known that more girls would be around... course was pretty dry thanks to the efforts of Jon and the trail pixies the days before and it was good to race on local trails knowing how hard to push it!

undercarriage was a tad sore that night but back out on the bike tonight and legs feel good as new.

Just entered the "Gorrick 12:12 TORQ in your sleep" 12 hour solo in september!.. oh well.... in for a penny eh!

Well done everyone.. the day , course and weather were just perfect and even managed hydtration/fuel OK for once!
