I'll be attending a Dirtschool course on Saturday 14th June at Afan Forest park, South Wales. It's a fair way so looking to make a week-end of it, possibly taking Monday off too. Mrs Doolittle and K8t0 are thinking of joining me, anybody else fancy it? Have never been so need to put this right. The plan would probably be to do the Wall Trail and/or White Level trail, unless I get convinced to try out the Skyline

Accommodation either log cabin (K8t0 to inform) or camping (come on mrs D, it'll be fine!).

Hi I just called her and she has availablity. There are 4 cabins which each sleep 4 comfortably and 5 with a push. http://www.brynbettwslogcabins.co.uk/ The cabin is near to the wall, and 4 miles from the main trail centre. Its cheap £260 for Friday to Monday and it has bike storage. Camping facilities are very good and have  excellent showers and facilities. The cafe is great, like super great and sells beer until about 10pm. The only problem with the camping is the midges. It can be really bad and I mean really bad. We had to eat breakfast in the car it was that bad. But some weekends its fine. I think I would prefer the cabin option at £65 a head it aint bad, but I'll always camp if that suits other people better. That close proximity of tent to bar is always a puller!

Hiya!  I'll have a look at location, if it's driveable from Brum in 2-2.5 hours I may join you.

More than happy to liftshare with youTH if you're ok going round the Peaks via my way, I would also appreciate the cost-cutting exercise! If using my car you can leave yours in my garage (shock horror I actually use it to keep the car and not store shit!). Would you consider making it a long week-end by taking Monday off? I can also be persuaded to camp (thanks K8to for the info, that's quite useful).

ok i will check - but its the looming mountain mayhem the week after thats worrying me as I am taking fri and monday off for that weekend!  will check with work and home and let you know asap

No prob, if you can't it's not like I will cancel anyway so will definitely drive out there for the week-end.

Just looking on directions it will be the best part of 3 hours to get out there for me, so an overnight stay would be better.  I would probably arrive Sat am and depart Sun pm.  How would that fit in with everyone else?

Personally I would prefer the log cabin option if viable as I am not a natural camper!

Sounds good missG. TH, any news re: hols?

If I come I would drive down Fri night and back Sun night. Can't afford to take time off work.. and would need log cabin luxury!  even if that's a blow up bed in the living room!      It's a four and a half to five hour journey for me!

Oh, and I could do lift share if it fits in.

Just got back from Wales (Betws y Coed/CYB and Snowdon - walked the last however ) I will check with work to see if I can take either the Fri or the Mon off to extend my stay.

How soon will we need to book the accom?

Found out I can take the Monday off so can now do Sat - Mon

Anyone going Fri to Sun night?

(Missgroover, you fancy Mount Mayhem?)

Well I could do Fri - Sun instead, drive over after work, be a late arrival though, prob 9ish - unless I can take a half day....

Will message you re mayhem

Show/hide user stats

well the log cabin is Fri to Mon anyway.  For car sharing I'm wondering if anyone is doing Fri to Sun? Not sure where you live missgroover, but I know I could pick up Caroline or TH on my way down, and I would finish work (flexible)  about 3 ish in Bradford, maybe sooner...

Well I have checked and the Fri is OK for me to take half day if nec, I am in Birmingham so not sure if it would be en route for you...?  If not no worries I'll finish lunch time and make my own way.

Is the cabin booked already then?

not yet but sounds like it's a goer so am happy to do that tomorrow night. Speak later...

I pretty much go past everywhere on the way to the far off world of Port Talbot!  Depends how much off the beaten track it is though, as to how much time it would add on.......
