Advice bike to buy with insurance money..

Hi,

I used to have a Trek 1000 which was stolen a couple of weeks ago (how I mourn its loss) and the insurers have said they will cover the cost of a new bike. So I have £500 to spend and am wondering what bike will be the best value for money with good components.

I have been road cycling since last summer, and absolutely love it. The Trek was a hand-me-down and I didn't really know anything about bikes then, but it suited me well (though perhaps was a touch on the small side). I have done cycling up the French Pyrenees, many long rides in England and a couple of hill rides and duathlons. So I want something versatile and reliable within my price range of £500-600.

My local bike shop has been great, and I tried out a Bianchi this afternoon. The one they recommended is a Bianchi via Nirone 7 (sora groupset) for £525. The stock components certainly seem more value for money than with a Trek. However, I cannot find much on it on the internet, apart from some complaints about the sora elements, so does anyone have any opinions on this bike? Or indeed, on sora groupsets vs. Tiagra?

Any other advice or suggestions greatly appreciated! Including opinions on the Trek 1000...

Thanks in advance and sorry for a long post.

Katherine

OK since nobody has offered any advice I'll do my best to help. I bought a Lemond Etape a bit back, sora front mech, it's not as smooth as the tiagra on my other bike but it works. My general feeling is if I like a bike, and it fits well, seems good value but my only doubt is some of the componentry I go for it and ugrade that bit when I can, but thats just my opinion. Bianchi are good bikes and have a good reputation. Shop around though, there are some good deals on last years models, I saved £150 on my Lemond.

I have a Bianchi Via Nirone with Sora , and i love it, although i have not been on any other road bikes so i have nothing to compare the components with. I got mine in december and it was as the 2008 models were coming out so i got a 2007 model and saved some money.
