Is it healthy to love your bike? can you love your bike too much? you often see people posting pics of their bikes on forums - so i don't think im alone in this. I love my bike (pashley) and talk about it constantly to anyone who will listen and now that i've just got a new frame its even worse. Its ALL i can think about and every spare penny is already lined up to be spent on bike bits. i would say perhaps its a newbie thing but my bf loves his bikes and is the same as me and hes been riding over 15 years now. am i sad for getting so excited about going biking and bike bits..... my work colleagues ( apart from the other biker ) thinks i am. climbing didn't make me like this.... whats happened! tell me im not alone fellow bike loving shecyclers

you are a bit mad, but in a good way. I don't get that excited about bikes, more frustrated as i am always breaking them, however, i do get excited about riding. Having said that when I had just got my road bike, I stroked it and said "I love you" to it (in a joking way I should point out) and my mum who was in the room thought I was talking to her, and was most miffed when she found i was talking to the bike.

oh no its confirmed then, one of my own has deemed me mad.....
you are not alone, at least you go out with someone who shares your obsession, lots of my riding mates are always sneaking new bikes into the house or saying they are loads cheaper than they are.

Oh well, my first post on here and i am basically declaring myself rather odd. Your not mad , you are positively normal compared to me , i adore my bikes , oh and my car also. All three of them have names my car is Ozzy , my mountain bike is called Juinior (wouldnt have named it that now but i have had it since i was 11 and called it that then so im not changing it ) and my road bike is called Bianchi ,although i pronounce bianchi like bee-anche-ee , and not like bi-ank-ee , so its not called anything like bianca off eastenders. How are you supposed to prounce bianchi anyway?! I think i am a bit odd by giving everything a name , but my friends at uni have names for their cars too , including a ford Ka called Tallulah!! My bloke has a car called Megan, i named it but he calls it that too so he must be a little like me also. I think it stems from my parents, when i was young they always gave everything a human quality , for example "dont swing on the car door, you'll hurt it" Ahhh well......

Phew Mary's here to make me feel better it's not odd, i know loads of people who name their cars, bikes etc. welcome to the site btw

I say good night to my bikes sometimes and if I haven't ridden one for a while I apologise, is that mad?
 lol trio thats ace
SInce I got my Kona I have had to apologise to my Spesh cos I haven't been out on it - quietly though so the bf didn't hear! Though he has asked me what I intend to name my new car.... Didn't have to choose a name for the Kona as she's already called Lisa!
My friend called one of my bikes Penelope not my choice but it suits her ! Can't say I say 'good night' to any of them. But I do feel guilty sometimes and ride one because I've been riding the other more, sad .....
I love my bike! He's called George But iv just got a new track bike and im calling her Georgina so George has a friend! Man, that sounds sad doesnt it!!
Bit like naming pets I suppose you can call them daft names. Had a friend who called her dog 'Keith' imagine shouting that, some poor bloke probably sat in the park reading a paper hears his name being shouted !!!
In fact my OH has asked me once if I love my bikes more...
I got asked last holiday: Would you rather give up beer or sex? Beer, definitely Would you rather give up snowboarding or sex? Snowboarding definitely Ah what about mountain biking or sex? mmmmmm....not sure about that one! Ade did not look impressed.
I used to know a dog called Keith. i've got a cat called Dave which gets confusing as the bf is Dave too - no, the cat was not named after him! My forum name is actually nicked from a cat I once looked after.....
I had a friend who's dog was called Elvis - can you imagine shouting 'Elvis' late at night in the park!! I got really upset when my trusty stumpy was superseeded my new toy!

I love my bike too! The mtn bike I own now I've had for 3 years and though it has a few war wounds I still love it. I've upgraded a few things on it (and still a few more things to go when there's enough pennies in the bank!!!!) - the latest upgrade being Mavic cross max SL wheelset - spin the back wheel and it purrrrrrs!!!! I've just spent the last couple of hours polishing it ready for racing on sat. It lives just outside my bedroom door and everytime I walk past it I think what a good looking bike it is. I am NOT mad!!!!!

You are not alone, what is wrong with getting excited about wonderful new shiny bikes. When I had handbuilt frame back in the 80's I spent days watching the post til it arrived.. I had a hand built race frame back in the 90's that arrived when Iwas pregnant, it was great to build it up for the following season after junior arrived, then 4 years ago it was resprayed and re-equipped it looked wonderful and was worth at least a minute in a 10 such was the psychological boost. Have just had to scrap former racing bike now hack bike and collected replacement bike (photo to follow when sorted out the technical stuff) on Saturday, it has not been relegated to the shed yet and I keep gazing at it not to mention having cleaned it twice!!!!!!!!
claire - your lucky not be divorced saying that ;) yep - im also guilty of walking past the bikes and glancing over thinking how amazing they are, not to mention the odd wave lol. poor new little blue (orange 5 frame) is still in its box though rather than calling my commissions at work just that, i now call it my fork fund. im working twice as hard

Definitely not mad! I love my bikes, to the point that they all have names and I am genuinely concerned about their feelings (ok so maybe the last part is in a jokey kind of way). Most of the people I work with think I'm mad and I'm far to old to spend my weekends riding in the mud but to me it is everything! It's perfectly normal. Ok, it's probably not but what's normal anyway?!
