Have tentatively agreed to lead a ride along a small section of the Mary Townley Loppwith some new riders I know in Rochdale. Grew up in Littleborough so have the advantage of knowing the area and can go to my mums for a brew and a shower before going home again !

Hi Debz There are a couple of rides I know of neat Rochdale. The Mary Townley Loop runs across Whitworth to Calderbrook via the hills at the top of Wardle. I'm doing a trial run tomorrow if it's not "persisting down" with rain. You can get an idea of the route from this map http://www.idonohoe.com/mary_map_580.htm The route I've got planned for tomorrow is 6.5 miles so very short but there's quite a bit of uphill. There is some nice riding to be had on Blackstone Edge, haven't done it myself yet but will be persuading other half that he can ride up hill so we can try it out. I think I've sussed the route from the Bog Trotters website. A couple of routes to check out that way. I should be out quite a bit now and as my mum's up that way should be heading up that way a fair bit. I'll let you know next time I'm up that way after tomorrow.

I like the top bit of the Mary Towneley loop, the bottom bit was a bog-fest the last and only time I did it. Quite fancy that challenge they do in the summer when you do the whole lot in a day but don't know when it is yet.

It's the 18th of June I think Carolyn. I'm aiming to be able to do it next year rather than this. Nice riding today but coming up from Wardle on the cobbles was a right slog.

Lancashire Countyside Services are doing one too it seems, which was the one i knew about. I had a sudden panic I'd forgotten what year it was and I was looking at last years events ! http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/penninebridleway/event.asp?PageId=26&EventId=56
