Haven't you already got a HT? What about one of these JUmbly and Trio have just got one and swear by them for fitness, a bit too retro for me

 Single Speed

Stretch the budget a bit for one of these, they get good reviews and if I was looking to add a geared hardtail to my collection it would be on my list of considerations.

merlin

What's made you want a hardtail, you only just got a full sus? As Carolyn says I've gone back to a hardtail but running it singlespeed, the idea being to push for some extra fitness??

The Merlin looks nice, like the scott too, need to get my fitness back up only got out of hospital on Thursday been in just over 3weeks came back from holiday with a very nasty blood poisoning bug, but im off to do some biking 2moro for the first time, i did have HT but to big for me so been looking for new one why ive been in Hosy, i dont know what i would have done without the use of that Patientline very good but works out exspensive. il give it a week to try and get my strength up and il meet you up Rivington if ok ..........just dont kill me lol!!

Woah, that sounds pretty nasty, 3 weeks stuck in hospital, not nice. Take it easy and get your fitness back gently. Yeah, anytime you like meet up at Rivi for a gentle ride, I'm sure Carolyn and Trio would be cool for a ride too. Let us know as soon as you feel up to it.

wow debz you dont ave much luck do u, you best take things easy for a while.

Where did u go on holiday? so i can  make a note not to go there.

Yes I'd be up for a ride, maybe stick to your full suss till you get some fitness back?

As said above I have a ss and it is helping my fitness, but I think you need to have some fitness first.  I also would stick to just one bike if I wasn't doing so much mileage.

well did around 5miles on road and ive just got out the bath and i feel alot better for pushing myself....just a little bit!  Been to malaga Poots my aunt took me to sierra nevadas and i thought i could snow board..........big mistake!!  hit a sharp rock and cut my shin and because i left it , it got infected and right through me thought it was curtains for me at one point!  i might have a ride to rivy 2moro if weather ok got 2more weeks on the sick .........its great!!!

i always thought the best specced ht for under £500 was the specialised hardrock.

you could always upgrade forks etc?

Show/hide user stats
been looking at a hardrock earlier today good valuemight just spend a little more though up to £700 cant go abouve that my hubby thinks i only spent few hundred omn my last bike ....... hed go mad!  but what the hell!!!!

As always try before you buy. I find the spesh geometry doesn't suit me very well. Evans seem to have some good deals on at the moment on 2007/6 bikes, seem to have a lot of Kona's going with big reductions. The Genesis hardtails always get good reviews too, Green Machine in Horwich are a Genesis dealer so you could try one out in there, the iO ID looks lush, but it is £900, which might stretch your husbands tolerance a bit much!

As Jumbly says try lots of bikes, go on a shecycles ride and try other peoples bikes, gives you an idea of if the geometry suits you.

Well ive got one , a marin juniper trail bright orange felt really good to ride and felt great on it them guys at Mike Cooksons are really good im made up, plus got my daughter a Trek4300 secondhand from there excellent condition its costing me a fortune being off work cant wait to go back!!  BTW Jumbly and Carolyn i made it up that dreaded rocky path behind the barn today took me half hour but i did it without pushing!!  i came down on the opposite  side in around 3ft of mud unable to stop and to my suprise a fence at the bottom!!  so bike isnt orange no more...........im getting ther
